A member of the raccoon family, coatis are identified by their long, flexible snout and slender banded tail. Similar to their relative, coatis are curious and resourceful creatures, but unlike raccoons, coatis are diurnal and are most active during the day. Coatis are highly intelligent and adaptive with a great sense of smell and are known for their exceedingly gregarious behavior. Female coati lives together year-round in bands, while men only join during mating season.
